Debbie has been a resident of Anne Arundel County since 1965 when her family moved to Cape St. Claire. She and Keith, her husband of 28 years, moved to Pasadena in 1986. Their daughter, Heather is a proud 2008 graduate of Chesapeake High School. Two years ago, they welcomed granddaughter Lilly to the family, and Debbie took on the beloved title of GiGi.
Debbie graduated from Anne Arundel Community College with an Associate’s degree in Nursing. She worked for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center as a Registered Nurse, retiring recently after 30 years of service. She currently works part-time in community health with Bayada Health Services.
Her service to the community started in earnest when her daughter entered kindergarten at Jacobsville Elementary in 1995. Debbie was a classroom volunteer and served as the school’s PTA president for 3 years. Debbie continued to volunteer at Chesapeake Bay Middle School and during this time served in a variety of roles in the Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs, spending 4 years as the president. During her time with AACCPTA, Debbie was able to serve on committees with Anne Arundel Public Schools. Some of the committees that she was a member of were Budget Task Force, Graduation Requirements Task Force and Strategic Facilities Utilization Steering Committee. Debbie was also responsible for presenting a PTA report to the Board of Education
After completing her time with AACCPTA, Debbie moved on to the Maryland PTA where she served as president from 2007-2009. During this time she served on a variety of committees with the Maryland State Department of Education, including the Maryland Instructional Technology Advisory Council, Commission on Civic Literacy, K-12 Assessments Advisory Council.
In 2010, Debbie was appointed to a 5 year term with the Board of Education. During her term on the board Debbie served on the Policy committee as chair for one year and the Budget committee. Debbie also served as the Vice President of the Board of Education for one year.
While on the Board of Education, Debbie was asked to chair the Ad Hoc Policy and Procedure committee for the Maryland Association of Boards of Education. In 2013 she was appointed to the Advisory Board of the Maryland After-School and Summer Opportunity Fund Program,
Debbie also served on the 21st Century Education Foundation as the Special Events Chair for 3 years and was a member of the Steering Committee for the Leadership Development Institute.
